When AV came to Nashville last weekend, she informed me that I was not the only person she came to visit. What? So...we arranged to meet some other folks at a local brewery. Soon after our arrival, she alerted us that Benedict Cumberbatch was in the building. I was skeptical, since there seemed to be little public interest in the man she pointed out. We gathered around her phone as she showed us a photo of BC. Some of the group had no idea who he was and therefore did not have a handle on the pronunciation of his name. His biggest claim to fame would be his role in "Sherlock", a fairly recent television series based on Sherlock Holmes. He also starred in "The Imitation Game" and "Dr. Strange".
At first glance, I agreed it could be him and thought maybe all the other people in the place were clueless to his identity. I did an unarmed walk by while going to stand in the restroom waiting line, where I casually shot some looks in his direction. With the information I collected from my brief observation, I deduced he was too young to be the real BC and I shared my findings with the others. AV continued to hold on to her belief of BC's identity.
The next reconnaissance mission was conducted by SH as he strategically moved near BC's doppelgänger. He acted as if he was talking on his cell. The fact that he chose an area right under the speakers when it was quieter everywhere else may have weakened the ruse's integrity. He gathered a photo, which looked like it was taken through Vaseline and was not useful. SH also claimed he heard a British accent, which would be true if the suspect really was BC. Excitement grew as the investigation continued.
The third phase of the investigation was to send one of the younger and smaller soldiers of our group into the action. He is 3 or so years of age. His father assisted on the mission. As the young soldier is currently focused on the Nashville Predators, the conversation between him and BC revolved around hockey and garnered no new clues. As the rest of the gang watched from our seats feet away from the mission location, the dopplegänger stood up and waved in our direction. The father had explained the true intention of the convo and it was not to show off his son's knowledge of the Preds. We sheepishly waved back. BC and his date, accompanied by the aforementioned father and son spy team, came strolling our way.
BC said he was flattered and that this was not the first time he was linked to the real BC. He explained he was from South Carolina. We immediately remembered that is not a British territory and our hopes were dashed. He was a good sport and let us take a selfie with him and chatted for a bit. I am not sure his date was as excited about how things had transpired with their date as we all were, but she seemed to be o.k. with the interruption. I would imagine some other couples in the place wished we could make their dates as exciting. We definitely gave this couple and ourselves something to talk about for the rest of the evening. Tally-ho!
