During a trip to the grocery with my mother, we went to the deli section. We talked a bit about what type of meat to get for some sandwiches for our lunch, as we were saving a turkey and ham for a family dinner coming up. The counter helper witnessed our dilemma and mentioned that the corned beef was on sale. We agreed to purchase some. She seemed to be really pushing it, telling my mother that she should get more at that discounted price. When my mother went to get another item and left me waiting on the meat, the helper wanted to make sure I did not want any for myself. I said that I thought my mother would share hers with me. We returned to the house with our purchases.
As we were preparing our sandwiches, we were bragging about getting a great deal. Then, puzzled looks spread over our faces and we started discussing why there was a sale. I said, "I think we should have asked more questions. I mean, of all the things we would be suspicious of, discounted meat should be close to the top of the list." We ate about two hours ago and show no signs of illness, so I think we are o.k.
